Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER hits market in China, starting at 189,900 yuan

the X-TRAIL e-POWER, Dongfeng Nissan’s first compact SUV equipped with two e-motors, officially hit the market with its two trim levels priced at 189,900 yuan and 199,900 yuan, respectively.
In terms of dimensions, the overall body size of the X-TRAIL e-POWER remains consistent with the fuel-powered model, measuring 4,681/1,840/1,730mm, with a wheelbase of 2,706mm. The exterior design highlights the unique identity of the hybrid electric drive with a darkened "V" grille and "e-POWER" branding on the sides and rear. Additionally, the new model introduces two new color options: Pearl White and Champagne Silver.

Inside the cabin, the most noticeable change is the replacement of the traditional gear lever with an electronic shift-by-wire system. The addition of the Misty Blue interior creates a fresher and more natural atmosphere. In terms of technology and comfort features, the new model is equipped with a 10.8-inch dual-curved HUD (Head-Up Display), which works in conjunction with a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 12.3-inch high-definition central control screen, forming a three-screen linkage system.

Furthermore, the car is equipped with the Nissan Connect super intelligent link 2.0+ and NISSAN i-SAFETY intelligent active safety system. The screen adopts a card-style UI design, offering concise operation and complete functions such as smartphone connectivity, software downloads, voice interaction, and over-the-air updates (OTA). The enhanced ProPILOT advanced intelligent driving assistance system, supporting Level 2 autonomous driving, is also available.

 

The X-TRAIL e-POWER is equipped with Nissan's second-generation e-POWER hybrid system, which consists of a 1.5T engine and dual electric motors. Unlike Toyota's THS and Honda's i-MMD hybrid technologies, Nissan's e-POWER system takes a different approach by utilizing the 1.5T engine in a more independent role. Instead of directly driving the wheels, the engine functions as a generator, providing power to the electric motors.

It is worth mentioning that the new model also offers the e-Pedal single-pedal mode. When activated, it provides a driving characteristic closer to that of a pure electric vehicle, with adjustable regenerative braking intensity.

Specifically, the 1.5T engine focuses on power generation, with faster torque response and a remarkable 1/10,000-second acceleration from start-up to full speed. Moreover, with the engine detached from the direct driving task, the frequency of engine starts has significantly reduced, smoothing out many of the engine's previous vibrations.

 

This intelligent power generation system consists of a 1.5T variable compression ratio range extender and an efficient generator. The front electric motor delivers up to 150kW and a peak torque of 330N·m, while the rear electric motor is good for a maximum power of 100kW and a peak torque of 195N·m.

In terms of technology, the X-TRAIL e-POWER retains the VC-TURBO technology. By incorporating a unique multi-link system that differs from the traditional engine's crankshaft and connecting rod structure, this technology enables intelligent and seamless switching of the compression ratio between 8:1 (high performance) and 14:1 (high efficiency). This means that the compression ratio can be reduced when high performance is required to ensure power output, and it can be increased in modes that demand less power, thereby reducing energy consumption.

At the same time, the X-TRAIL e-POWER is equipped with a 2kWh lithium-ion battery that supports rapid charging and discharging. As a power-oriented battery, it has a discharge/charge rate more than 15 times that of a regular EV battery. When the vehicle requires rapid acceleration, in addition to the current generated by the generator, the battery can provide a significant amount of discharge to power the vehicle, ensuring performance requirements. The consumed electrical energy can be quickly replenished through the generator.
