MG 07 Launch: What Happened

The MG 07 went on sale at the 29th Chengdu International Motor Show on August 21, 2026. SAIC offered seven variants across BEV and PHEV configurations, with limited-time prices ranging from 105,900 to 156,900 yuan — notably lower than the pre-sale range of 125,900 to 165,900 yuan announced on July 29.

Within 1 minute and 57 seconds of opening firm orders at the show, MG received over 10,000 deposits. Over 24 days of pre-sale, total pre-orders reached 59,000 units. The 845 km BEV variant accounted for 45% of orders, prompting SAIC to request that CATL add two additional battery production lines (EVWire). MG also tripled its Chinese retail network from roughly 200 to 600 points of sale.

Deliveries of the 650 km BEV versions begin in late August 2026; the 845 km versions follow in October.

MG, originally Morris Garages, is a British marque founded in 1924. The 845 km version uses CATL's 91 kWh NMC pack on an 800V platform with 5C charging — 12 minutes from 30% to 80%. The 610 km version uses a semi-solid-state battery from Qingtao Energy, one of the first volume applications of semi-solid cells in a passenger car (CarNewsChina). The PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre engine (82 kW) with a 152 kW electric motor, delivering 245 km of pure-electric CLTC range and 1,745 km combined. Depleted fuel consumption is 2.91 L/100 km (The Electric Viking).
