Another Heavyweight Joins Huawei's HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility Lineup! SAIC Officially Previews Its All-New Model Z7.

Judging from its product positioning and design direction, this all-new coupe is highly likely to directly target the currently red-hot Xiaomi SU7. A head-on showdown in the new energy coupe market is already on the horizon.

In the evening of yesterday, SAIC officially released a highly intriguing teaser poster via its Weibo account. The poster only revealed the silhouette of the Z7, the brand's second model, instantly sparking widespread discussion across the automotive industry and among consumers alike. From the exposed silhouette, it is easy to see that the SAIC Z7 boasts highly recognizable side lines, bearing a strong resemblance to the Porsche Taycan. Its sleek fastback design exudes a powerful sporty gene inherently. The front fascia continues the family design language first seen on the SAIC H5, ensuring the consistency of the brand's design identity. The taillight design at the rear also hides a clever touch, closely mirroring the lighting characteristics of the Porsche Taycan, further enhancing the high-end texture of the entire vehicle.

SAIC Z7 range

According to industry leaks, the SAIC Z7 will be equipped with a variety of mainstream high-end configurations currently popular in the new energy vehicle market. Among them, a lidar unit will be mounted on the roof, laying a solid foundation for the vehicle to achieve advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Meanwhile, the new car will also adopt a hidden or semi-hidden door handle design, paired with large-size sporty wheels. This not only effectively reduces the drag coefficient but also further strengthens the sporty attributes of this coupe model, perfectly aligning with the core aesthetic demands of the young consumer group.

Notably, the design philosophy of the SAIC Z7 has made a bold breakthrough — it breaks away from the traditional integrated body design framework within the HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, and instead adopts a long hood design style similar to that of the Xiaomi SU7. This design shift is no coincidence, but a precise insight into the aesthetic preferences of the current mainstream young consumers. The stretched stance and sporty aura brought by the long hood design are precisely one of the core selling points in the current new energy coupe market.

SAIC's official copy on the teaser poster reads: "SAIC Z7, More Anticipated Than The New Generation!" This highly impactful statement is widely interpreted by the industry as a direct challenge to the Xiaomi SU7. Coincidentally, earlier on the same day, Xiaomi Auto had just kicked off the pre-sale for its new SU7, branding it as the "New Generation SU7". According to the official information released by Xiaomi, the starting price of the new SU7 is RMB 229,900. Compared with the previous model, this represents a price increase of RMB 14,000, with a growth rate of 6.48%. This price adjustment has also created a market entry opportunity for competing models. At the same time, Xiaomi stated that the new SU7 is expected to officially launch in the market this April.

Xiaomi SU7 2026

As the fifth automotive brand under Huawei's HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility, SAIC has attracted significant market attention since its inception. Looking back at its development journey, on September 23rd, SAIC officially unveiled its first model, the SAIC H5. With a starting price of RMB 159,800, it immediately became the most affordably priced model in the entire HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility business ecosystem, quickly opening up the market with its high cost-performance ratio. Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the SAIC H5 boasts impressive competitiveness in terms of body dimensions. Its length, width, and height are 4,780 mm, 1,910 mm, and 1,664 mm respectively, with a wheelbase reaching an impressive 2,840 mm. The spacious interior space can fully meet the usage needs of family users. Consistent with many popular models under HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility, the SAIC H5 also offers two powertrain options simultaneously: extended-range hybrid (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV), which can adapt to the usage scenarios and energy preferences of different consumer groups.

Thanks to its precise pricing and product positioning, the SAIC H5 has delivered an outstanding market performance. On December 9th, the SAIC brand achieved a significant delivery milestone — just 78 days after its launch, the delivery volume of the SAIC H5 successfully exceeded 20,000 units. Such a delivery speed is remarkable among new brands in the new energy vehicle market, also confirming consumers' recognition of the SAIC brand and its products.

Previously, Wang Xiaoqiu, Chairman of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, revealed the product plan of the SAIC brand during a relevant event on December 9th, clearly stating that SAIC plans to launch at least two all-new models in 2026. The official preview of the Z7 model now is the concrete realization of this product plan, also indicating that the SAIC brand will further improve its product matrix and fully expand into more segmented areas of the new energy vehicle market.
